No lasagna noodles, no problem. Use farfalle pasta (bowtie) to make this kid-favorite meal any night of the week!

Quick & Easy Stovetop Lasagna

As a mom with three active kids, I rely on quick meals to get us through the week, and delicious pasta dinner ideas always come to the rescue.

With this Skillet Lasagna recipe, there’s no need to boil any noodles or bake anything since one skillet does all the work for you! This also means minimal cleanup.

Stovetop Lasagna Ingredients

If you want to try this quick dinner idea tonight you’ll just need a few basic ingredients to get started:

  • Italian sausage: made of chicken or pork. Ground beef also works.
  • Onion and garlic: add them chopped for the most delicious flavor.
  • Canned tomato sauce: it’s not lasagna without tomato sauce.
  • Italian seasoning: omit it if your tomato sauce is already seasoned.
  • Red pepper flakes: optional for extra heat.
  • Water: for cooking.
  • Pasta: I use farfalle pasta (bowtie), but you can make this recipe with any pasta.
  • Salt: for seasoning.
  • Cheese: shredded mozzarella, ricotta, and Parmesan cheese to make this lasagna deliciously cheesy!

You’ll find the measurements in the recipe card below.

Simple right? Now wait until you see how easy this recipe is to make.

How to Make Lasagna on the Stove

I’m going to tell you how to make this Skillet Lasagna recipe step-by-step.

  • Brown the meat
Heat a large, non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, cook the sausage, breaking it up with a spatula as it cooks until it’s nearly browned. Add the chopped onion and garlic to the sausage and cook, until the onions are soft and translucent and the sausage is no longer pink, about 3 minutes.
  • Stir in the sauce
Stir in tomato sauce and seasonings (if sauce isn’t seasoned) to the cooked sausage and stir.
  • Cook the pasta
Add 2 cups of water and the pasta to the skillet, stir, and bring the mixture to a boiling/simmer. Once it’s simmering, reduce the heat to low and cover. Cook for 12 minutes, checking and giving the mixture a stir once, until the pasta is tender.
  • Add the cheese
When the pasta is tender, turn off the heat. Add the mozzarella and stir. Top with small mounds of ricotta cheese and sprinkle the Parmesan on top. Cover with the lid and let the cheese melt for 3 minutes.
  • Serve
Serve immediately with additional Parmesan cheese if desired. By this time, you kitchen will smell amazing – and your family will be begging you to hand them a heaping bowl of stovetop lasagna!

    Notes

This recipe works great with farfalle (bowtie) and penne pasta. If you use macaroni, cooking time will be shorter, about 9 to 10 minutes.
