CBS 2 News anchor's wife has great April Fools prank, but oh how it backfires!

As predictable as April Fools' Day pranks can be I, unfortunately, fell for a good one from someone that I least expected. It's a prank that would end up costing me hundreds of dollars, something the prankster (my wife) wasn't expecting.

This is the text message I received yesterday after work. I had made a quick stop at the grocery store on the way home when I received this text:

I was standing in line at the grocery store loading items onto the conveyor belt when I got the text. I didn't have time to read into it much but sent a quick reply of, 'WHAT?!?!' and told her I was checking out. All that I saw was the TV in my family with a screen that obviously looked cracked. The television is over 10 years old, and one that I would just replace, not fix.

When I got home, my 4-year-old met me at the garage door and, in his best tattletale voice, told me his younger brother had thrown one of his Transformer toys at the TV and broke it. He was convinced to show me what happened. When I finally made my way to the TV, I quickly noticed that it didn't seem damaged but, that it was merely displaying an image of a cracked screen!

Turns out there's a YouTube video that will play that image on your TV. You can find it here.

My wife, who was standing nearby in the kitchen, starting laughing when she realized I found out what happened. I was definitely surprised, she isn't a jokester and hates pranks. The bigger reaction actually came from her when I told her I already ordered a new one. She explained it pretty well:

"April fools joke gone terribly wrong?????? I hope you laugh at my expense! I sent nate this pic earlier today saying we had had a rough morning?? I got kyson in on it too. Just a clip on YouTube that looks like a broken tv. ?????? I thought I was being so clever and waited till nate got home to spill the April fools beans?? but joke was on me........ he told me he had already ordered a new tv. ?? probably the most expensive April fools joke to date."

Fortunately for my wife, return policies are pretty lenient and, even though my order didn't get canceled right away, I've now received confirmation that I won't be the happy owner of a newer, and bigger, flat screen TV.
